Artist's Statement :

The ideas of my art practice emerge from the daily activities with my living space and multiple relationships with the surrounding objects. My personal space has become my studio space. The tools which I use represent the collective memories of the place where I belong. The daily usable materials used in my works portray the everyday household activities. The common objects of our daily life are the metaphors of a social structure. I’ve explored different alternative mediums such as botanical prints using the daily usable tools of home. I incorporate my previous works through multiple mediums and layers into the recent works in a dialogical way. The process of reusing and recreating my own works carries a physicality of time and creates a visual language. Natural elements, found materials are integral parts of my art practice. Stitching and embroidery are the traditional craft making processes which I’ve been developing in my works. This methodology carries a history of my family. Embroidery creates a memory mapping of the place. The process of my work conveys physicality as well as a virtual reality through drawing, printmaking, scrolls, bookmaking, photographs and digital mediums. I took photographs of my drawings and prints, then made digital collages and sometimes I again drew manually on the digital prints. I adopted the methodology of my practice from this current situation. My focus is on sharing the narration of living space and to reflect surroundings through found objects, materials, documentation and recollection of memories and history of a geographical location.
