The pandemic caused me to shift my art practice from my studio space to a small hostel room. I couldn’t go back home and missed my family. I longed for my native place; the memories of the hills and the beautiful landscape instilled and provoked my creative spirit. I started using egg trays. As a painter egg cartons seemed to me like two-and-a-half dimensional objects which offered remarkable possibilities for imagery. The surface of the material had similarity to mountains which connected to the memory of the landscape. The egg tray structure fulfiled a transitional function and acted like a metaphor.
I paint on the egg trays with images that are layers of memories of my home town. The pulp creates a relief-like form on the surface of egg trays which closely resembles to the landscape of Ladakh. I have lived in and around mountains. My education required me to move away from the mountains but that is where my heart lies.

What are you going to take forward from this make-shift studio practice experience?

"The current situation of crisis has taught me to work with any available material and generate a new  relationship. The idea of a make and shift in space is something which I intend to work on in future while initiating a metaphorical dialogue with materials."
