Artist's Statement :

Like most middle class Bengalis, I have been brought up with a certain shared cultural construct. Parallel to that was my own familial cultural background which, on one hand is unique, and on the other hand, relatable. It has certainly helped me shape my own social and cultural consciousness. I belonged to a family which on one hand was steeped in music and on the other was bereft of any prejudices.I was born in a family which lived in a refugee resettled colony situated in the southern fringes of Kolkata. My forefathers had come to the place as refugees from East Pakistan (Bangladesh) leaving behind all their property. So, I somewhat grew up listening to the narratives of my grandfather and grandmother of the colony settlement.  Life at the colony has evolved and I have been a witness to a fragment of it. With changing times, the people of the colony have changed their value system, philosophy and way of life. Due to my family’s close association with Indian classical music, various art forms have influenced my life consciously or subconsciously. I have tried to express  these influences through my various works of art.Presently  my work encompasses certain critical aspects of  the sociological aspects of our society. I have also been influenced by some poetry of Bengal and have worked to express myself. I am more interested in the political aspects of the poetries.Since my interest area includes printmaking technology, I am experimenting with various forms of it. I have been working with this medium for the past 5 years and find that certain mediums attract me more. For example : printing ink, crayon, and acid . I am also experimenting with different textures using different paraffin. I am also studying about the amalgamation of traditional printmaking technology with digital printing.
